
Ryan Beattie of Gates Middle School Named MSAA Middle School Principal of the Year
Mr. Ryan M. Beattie, Principal of Gates Middle School in Scituate, has been named the 2025 MSAA Middle School Principal of the Year. With a wealth of experience in school administration, curriculum development, and student support, Ryan oversees the daily operations of a school serving 660 students and 90 staff members. His work includes shaping the school’s academic agenda, managing faculty hiring and evaluation, coordinating professional development, and mentoring new leaders. Ryan is passionate about fostering an environment of academic excellence, social-emotional development, and student well-being.
Before becoming Principal, Ryan was the Assistant Principal at Lester J. Gates Middle School from 2017 to 2019. He also served as the Department Chair for English Language Arts at Scituate Public Schools and taught English at Scituate High School. With his strong background in both teaching and leadership, Ryan brings a thoughtful, student-centered approach to his work.
Ryan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education from Boston University, a Master’s in Education in Organizational Management from Endicott College, and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Fitchburg State University. He is certified as a Superintendent, Principal, and English Teacher in Massachusetts, with additional endorsements in Sheltered English Immersion.
Ryan’s dedication to education is reflected in his active involvement in several educational committees, including the Scituate Public Schools Curriculum Acceleration Committee and Emergency Operations Team, where he co-chairs efforts to enhance authentic learning and school safety. His contributions to education continue to shape the future of the Scituate school district and the broader community.
Ryan grew up in Holliston and attended Holliston High School. Outside of his professional life, Ryan lives in Plymouth with his dog Miss Mabel and enjoys running marathons, spending time with his niece and nephew, reading, and cooking. He is also committed to ongoing professional development and has been the recipient of two awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
