Building Teacher Self-Efficacy: Bridging the Gap Between Administrators and Teachers

The concept of teachers' self-efficacy is the perception that teachers have about their ability to be highly effective despite the challenges and demands of the job. Research supports a relationship between student achievement and teacher self-efficacy. This workshop is designed to share specific strategies that administrators can use to increase the self-efficacy of the teachers with whom they work. Insight will be provided as to what teachers desire to increase their self-efficacy compared to what administrators believe teachers desire; based on current research.

Participants will:

·         Become familiar with the term self-efficacy and its impact on staff development

·         Understand what teachers perceive improves or hinders their self-efficacy

·         Identify misconceptions that administrators have about what teachers want to improve their self-efficacy

·         Learn what teachers are looking for from their administrators

·         Leave with specific actions that can be taken to support the self-efficacy of their teaching staff

·         Leave with tangible suggestions and strategies that can be implemented in schools to bridge the gap between teachers and administrators
