MSAA Professional Development Workshop for School Administrators, Counselors, and Department Heads

Self-Care for Educators

This is a snapshot of both the professional development course and course for students we offer in our district. Workshop participants will be exposed to and practice various self-care techniques (mindfulness practices and forms of movement) that both staff and students experience in these experiential courses. Dress comfortably and come as you are.

Workshop Objectives:

·         Define basic mindful awareness skills (mindful listening, body scan, etc.)

·         Explain how emotions affect the lives of educators

·         Understand how various yoga styles (hatha, nidra, restorative), dance and walking integrate into your well-being

Dr. Adam Diliberto | Wellesley High School

Dr.Adam Diliberto is the Academic Coordinator, Bridge Program, Wellesley High School, a program that helps students re-integrate into school after mental health and medical absences. His doctoral dissertation studied the experiences and values (both personal and professional) of the Cultivating Awareness and Resilience in Education (CARE) retreat for educators. He has taught self-contained classes, co-taught, and case-managed students. Adam is very interested in bringing mindfulness to K-12 education settings with the hopes of teaching teachers and students the skills to become aware of their emotions and reduce stress. 

Kathleen Brophy | Wellesley High School 

Kathleen Brophy, M.Ed, received the 2019 Ruth and Virginia Bigwood Voice for Justice Award from REACH Beyond Domestic Violence. 2015 MAHPERD High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award and the 2016 SHAPE Eastern District High School TOY. She is in her 31st year as an educator and is presently a Fitness and Health Teacher at Wellesley High School, Wellesley, MA.
