Education has changed over the past years, there is a growing number of tier 1 and tier 2 behaviors in the classroom. Teachers are being asked to not only continue to provide the rigorous academic curriculum but are asked to also manage these behaviors effectively in the classroom.

This workshop will focus on how to manage these behaviors, address behaviors before they happen by setting up the classroom in a proactive way as well as provide a variety of tips, tricks and resources to manage behaviors tomorrow.

Participants will:

  • Find the function of a child's behavior
  • Look at the antecedents of the behaviors
  • Gain strategies for dealing with different functions
  • Learn strategies for dealing with different antecedents
  • Learn how to approach a child in crisis
  • Effectively use a "take a break space"
  • Learn ways to create a classroom that naturally engages social/emotional learning to address behaviors
  • Learn how to proactively set up a classroom to better manage behaviors
  • Be provided with a variety of resources that can help address behaviors for when you are "stuck"

About the Presenter

Melissa Davis | Education Advisors LLC

Melissa Davis is a 17-year veteran teacher who has a Master’s degree in Special Education as well as in Behavior Analyst. She spent over half of her career teaching students with severe emotional and behavioral needs and has taken what she has learned in those environments to help address tier 1 and tier 2 behaviors in the general education setting. Her love for teaching and passion for education allows her to provide teachers with real world knowledge of tips, tricks and techniques that have been proven to work in all educational settings and can be implemented the very next day.
