Crisis Team Action Plans: 
 Prevent, Prepare, Respond, and Recover 

This workshop will explore a wide range of school crises and what to do before, during, and after a school crisis. Participants will generate ideas for creating crisis team action plans. There will be opportunities to engage and share ideas with colleagues from other school districts. This experience will offer an in-depth look at some of the most challenging and problematic situations that can suddenly happen to a school and a community. The key to successful crisis team action plans is to prevent, prepare, respond, and recover.

Participants will:  

·         Examine a wide school crisis team action plans

·         Create a timeline of actions you might take after examining fictitious clinical cases involving different school crises

·         Discover what to do before, during, and after a school crisis

·         Learn how to take actions to minimize the impact of school incidents

·         Develop a robust response plan to help ensure an adequate and timely response to a crisis

·         Compare and contrast timely and well-written letters of communication to parents, on a variety of topics, that are necessary during crisis situations

Tom Brow, an educational consultant, instructional coach, former teacher, high school social studies department head, and middle school Principal for many years, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, a master’s degree in Community Education and a C.A.G.S Degree in Administration. Tom presented bi-monthly workshops at an annual PreK-12 induction program for well over a decade and has coached teachers and administrators. He has earned numerous marks of recognition from the local Excellence in Education Award, Middlesex District Attorney’s Citizenship in Action Award, to co-runner up Massachusetts Teacher of the Year Award. His vast experience in middle school education both in classroom instruction and supervision, his love of skillful teaching and learning, and his enthusiasm is evident at all his workshops.
