Becoming More Efficient with the Evaluation Process - Aligning the Essential Components of the Teacher Evaluation Process - To Build Educator Effectiveness

MSAA Professional Development Workshop for Central Office Administration, Principals, Assistant Principals, Department Chairs, Directors, and Evaluators

Becoming More Efficient with the Evaluation Process - Aligning the Essential Components of the Teacher Evaluation Process - To Build Educator Effectiveness

Educator evaluations can become perfunctory “tasks” to be completed for administrators, and confrontational or “one more thing,” for the educators. That is one end of a continuum, at the other end, the evaluation process can be a productive thread in the fabric of a school that is a learning organization built on trust and a willingness to grow.  The workshop will provide time and space to analyze the current approach toward educator evaluation, of both the school and DESE, develop strategies, and plans to move toward an aligned, feasible, and meaningful approach to educator evaluation. Written and oral feedback, collection and evaluation of evidence, goal alignment, and ongoing improvement will be examined. The workshop will model communication and alignment practices and will be an interactive session with guided discussion.

The key takeaways: The evaluation process should be in support of the learning organization’s goals.  When the evaluation process components are aligned with each other - and the educator needs school goals - the process is more meaningful, feasible, and productive for everyone.

Participants will:

·         Unpack current Educator Evaluation from Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

·         Share current understandings and practices, including resources

·         Analyze resources and written evaluations and observations

·         Establish an end goal, work backwards though the evaluation system for alignment

·         Practice written and oral feedback, evaluation, and evidence analysis for alignment

This workshop will assist participants in setting their goals for the educator evaluation and opportunities to plan evaluations that have meaning for the evaluator, the educator, and the effectiveness of the school. Feedback practice, evidence evaluation practice, and goal examination will be tied together to demonstrate a streamlined process that is more effective.
