Amplifying Student Voice: A Workshop on Empowering Students through Effective Communication and Advocacy

Unlock the potential of student empowerment in education with our dynamic workshop, "Amplifying Student Voice." This transformative session is designed to equip educators, administrators, and educational professionals with the tools and strategies needed to build a culture that values and uplifts the voices of students.

In this engaging workshop, participants will delve into the fundamental importance of student voice in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. We will explore the various dimensions of student voice, emphasizing its role in shaping educational experiences and promoting a sense of ownership among learners.

Key Workshop Highlights:

·        Understanding Student Voice: Gain insights into the multifaceted nature of student voice, encompassing perspectives, opinions, and unique contributions. We'll examine how a strong student voice can enhance learning outcomes and cultivate a sense of belonging.
 

·        Creating Inclusive Spaces: Learn strategies for creating inclusive and safe spaces that encourage students to express themselves freely. Learn to identify and address barriers that may hinder open communication.

·        Effective Communication Skills: Communication is essential for student advocacy. The workshop will cover communication strategies that empower students to articulate their thoughts, needs, and aspirations.

·        Student-Led Initiatives: Explore the power of student-led initiatives and projects. Participants will discover how to facilitate and support students in taking an active role in shaping their educational experiences, contributing to a more vibrant and student-centered learning.

Nicholas Markos | Rupert A. Nock Middle School

In his current role as Principal at Rupert A. Nock Middle School in Newburyport, MA, Nick is responsible for a myriad of functions, including scheduling, staff supervision and evaluation, curriculum development, and academic program implementation. His leadership has seen the successful implementation of a School-Wide PBIS Model, fostering a positive shift in behavior and building staff morale. Nick has a keen focus on data analysis, evidenced by initiatives such as the integration of Restorative Behavioral Practices and the "We Belong" Dialogic Classroom Implementation. Nick's journey from the revitalization of struggling businesses to transformative leadership in education reflects his adaptability, strategic thinking, and ability to drive positive change. He is poised to bring my multifaceted expertise to new challenges and contribute to the success of dynamic teams and organizations all while putting students first in every decision made in a school setting.

Brenda Palmisano | Rupert A. Nock Middle School
504 Coordinator/Academic Interventionist Rupert A. Nock Middle School, Brenda began her career in education 30 years ago. She currently works at the Nock Middle facilitating 504 processes and leads the school Student Support Team. She is an Executive Function Coach and Consultant. Brenda has contributed to curriculum development for a leading educational software program focusing on discovering individual skills and interests She is dedicated to implement successful proven ways to improve student experience for both students and teachers

Eric Schildge | Rupert A. Nock Middle School
Eric is the 8th Grade ELA Teacher/Dialogue Coach- Rupert A. Nock Middle School. Eric has taught for ten years in a variety of Catholic, charter, independent, and public schools, both in the United States and the Marshall Islands. Eric is an instructor at Mount Holyoke's Masters in Teacher Leadership program, where he teaches classes on Education Policy and Leadership, and he also works as an associate with a dialogue facilitation non-profit called Essential Partners. Eric is an experienced curriculum designer, working to bring a diverse array of perspectives and lived experiences into the classroom; using interactive and performance-based activities to help students develop empathy and understanding across lines of difference.
